WICKED WEEKEND in PEAK DISTRICT

40th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS and AGM

8-10 November 2024

What a fabulous weekend – good weather, good walks and 40th anniversary celebrations.

Ibex was started in 1984 by 4 people. It was good that two of them, Viv and Derek, pictured above were there for the celebrations. The weekend started well with a meal followed by a mountain quiz. Many of the questions were taxing but two teams did well as joint winners.

Breakfast, Saturday morning was a buzz. The route cards and maps were laid out and people were choosing their walks. Our accommodation, at Thornbridge Outdoor Centre, lies on the Monsal Trail so most of the walks took in part of it. The Monsal Trail, 8.5 miles long, is part of an old railway line open to cyclists, walkers and horses. There are several quite long tunnels. They are well lit and dry. The weather was misty but good and the autumn colours as depicted were superb.

On return and with hot showers completed, the AGM was next. Next year’s weekends had already been planned but there was still plenty to discuss. A delicious catered meal and a ceidlidh followed. The caller was clad in a bright waistcoat, hence collisions and sore toes were avoided.

Sunday was again a day of good walks and good weather.

Thanks to all the organisers who did so much to organise this special weekend. Two had to go to Namibia to recuperate!
